From admission to faculty

Presidency University is one of the most popular and prestigious universities in Bangalore. It is affiliated with Bangalore City University and was established in Karnataka state Act No. 41 of 2013. It is ranked as the 11th best private university in the country and 2nd best private university in the state of Karnataka. It offers undergraduate courses like B.B.A., B.Com., B. Design, B.A. LL.B., B.B.A.  LL.B., B.Com. LL.B. and Post-graduate courses like M.B.A. and LL.M. Courses offered to a law student at the university are so flexible that they could be made into a career nationally and internationally.

Getting admission into the University is not a tedious process. One can seek admission by contacting the university on its official contact number. The eligibility criteria for a law student is that he/she must have scored 45% in pre-university/higher secondary/10+2 from a state or center recognized board (40% if the student belongs to a reserved category). He/she must have given CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) or LSAT (Law School Admission Test) or PULAT (Presidency University Law Admission Test). The maximum age limit is 20 years for the general category and 22 years for the reserved category.

Although the university’s law school started functioning in 2015, over the years, the university, especially the school of law has gone through major evolutions. The department of law is headed by Dr. Tufail Ahmad Khan. Internships are guided under Legal Practitioners/Corporate Firms/Advocates, etc. Also, Clinical Courses like Moot Court, Trial Advocacy, Drafting, and Mediation offered by the S.O.L. and Legal Aid Cell of the university not only boost the knowledge of the students but also build their resume. The program of  B.A. LL.B. is integrated with courses like Political Science, Economics, and Sociology. The program of B.B.A.  LL.B. is integrated with courses General Management, Economics, and International Business. The program of B.Com. LL.B. has integrated courses in Economics, Accountancy, and Taxation.

The fee structure is as follows:

B.A. LL.B. is 1.40 Lakhs, B.B.A.  LL.B. is 1.50 Lakhs and B.Com. LL.B. is 1.25 Lakhs.

School of law is full of well-experienced faculty and ambitious students. Though the faculty is strict in matters of academics, they are morally supportive. They provide proper guidance in finding internships. They also share their valuable experience of Mooting which helps and motivates the students to take part in national/international moot court competitions.

During the initial days of my law school, I was a dunce in matters of internships and moot court competitions. But later, I got proper guidance from the concerned faculty, who motivated me in every way possible. Along with the theory, the faculty also enlightens us with the practical implications. Regular debates and endless assignments from the faculty help the students to stay updated with the latest judgments and related controversies.

The infrastructure of Presidency University is par excellence. It has a well-designed moot courtroom and a tremendous library full of books by well-known authors that may be useful for the students in their academics. The library can be accessed remotely as well. The classrooms are quite big and can hold up to 50 students at a time. University has a well-established cafeteria in 9000 sq. ft. with 250 seating capacity. It offers a wide range of food items. The cafeteria is known for its desserts. It is the best and most attractive spot of the university and is also the favorite spot of many. I, personally, have spent more time in the cafeteria than in the classroom, or library. The food is nutritious which also suits the taste of students from different parts of India.

The placement cell of the law school is efficient enough and coordinates with top companies for placement drives in the university. The cell coordinates with companies like Times Internet, IBS, Startups Club, Kurl-on, Walmart labs, Mahindra Finance, Reliance, Flipkart, HDB Financial Services, Vivo, Aditya Birla Capital, etc. Presidency University has a placement record of 80%. More than 20 recruiters visit the campus every year. The average package ranges from 3-3.5 lakhs per annum while the highest package is 7 lakhs per annum. The university promises 100% placement to students who maintain 7 to 8 CGPA.

The university offers hostel facilities for boys and girls. The hostel consists of double and triple sharing rooms which are well occupied with a mess. The boys’ and girls’ hostels are located at a distance of 1km and 1.5 km respectively from the university. Students can avail bus facility as well.

Overall, I rate Presidency University’s School of Law as – 8.5/10
